Raleigh Children & Adolescents Medicine began in 1966 when Robert Fleming, MD began a solo pediatric medical practice near Cameron Village.
It wasn’t that long before he was joined by Stephen Edwards, MD and Alan Goldman, MD. Those three now enjoy a well-deserved retirement after a combined 98 years of service to the health and welfare of children.
A native North Carolinian, Dr. Carr has been quite loyal to UNC-CH – where she received undergraduate and medical school degrees and where she attended pediatric residency.
Dr. Sena is from upstate New York. He played rugby while earning his medical degree at Albany Medical College. He left the chill of the North for pediatric residency at Duke where he met his wife.
Dr. Gessner is a true Raleigh native who achieved the rank of Lt. Commander as an officer in the US Navy prior to coming to our office. He served four years after earning a Biology degree at UNC-CH.
Yet another native North Carolinian who went to UNC-CH but here’s a twist: Dr. Meares’ undergrad degree was in Business and he worked for a bank before returning to Chapel Hill for his medical degree.
Dr. Owrey is not from North Carolina – she is from a small town in Northern Michigan. She studied Biology and Chemistry at Albion College.
Dr. Long grew up in Greensboro, NC. Though her academic career included significant time in Chapel Hill, she is clear that her heart remains with her undergraduate school, North Carolina State University.
